Hunter Division
|
All hunter fences will consist of natural rails, coops, gates, in & outs, walls. All hunters judged on performance, manners and soundness. Jumping classes will be shown over approximately eight fences. Hunter under saddle classes will be shown at walk, trot and canter both ways of the ring. Light contact with the horses mouth is required. May be asked to hand gallop at the judges’ discretion, but no more than eight at one time. No martingales under saddle. Suitability will be emphasized in all pony classes.

Open to all Fox Hunters, horses and riders, who have hunted four (4) or more times in the past year or had been a regular participant in a recognized hunt (need not be a member of MFHA). To be judged on the proper hunt turnout of horse and rider, the way of going over natural type fences, and overall brilliance of the round. May be asked to gallop, hold hard (straightness counts), dismount and/or lead over a fence or open and close a gate. Handy Hunter will have a minimum of two of the above options including: opening and/or closing a gate while mounted, backing, tight turn or other clever options for jump approaches, and walking a low jump. Formal or ratcatcher attire. Only approved helmets. No leather or canvas leggings or half-chaps. Horses and/or ponies to be shown in traditional hunting tack. Proper hunt appointments are encouraged.
Fences will be 2' - 2'6". A hi/low fence option, not to exceed 2'9" may be offered. Minimum of six (6) fences. Jumps will simulate those reminiscent of the hunt field, such as, but not limited to, natural posts and rails, board fence, gates, coops, hedges, brush and logs. |
